Flash say's screw you Silverlight.. Sort of.

by thebeebs 5. September 2008 01:50

thursday_night_football Yesterday Adobe and the NFL teamed up and announced that Adobe® Flash® will be used to deliver live online video streaming of NBC Sunday Night Football games on NFL.com and NBCSports.com.

The first game was broadcast last night and opinions thus far have been Luke warm:

Some complained that the video was pixelated and jumpy Some complained that there was no full screen mode.

Ok Flash didn’t brake any new ground but at least they didn’t melt and they have at least proved Flash Media Server is able to Stream Live TV on a large scale too. (P.S and before anyone mentions youtube…that’s not Live TV).

Please leave comments and let me know your experience of the broadcast.

The BBC got there first with the "Stream Live TV on a large scale" - the entire Olympics were streamed live using Flash (*with* fullscreen mode), and got nearly 1 million viewers on the first day. Online live TV is also coming soon to BBC iPlayer.

I missed that one somehow. Peak of 200,000 concurrent live and ondemand streams apparently. Although it's big... It's not huge.

I'm guessing that the US football will get bigger audiences than that though.

I am sure 200,000 is small beer for the NFL. It will be interesting to see how well it copes with larger traffic

200,000 is major traffic for a live beta test - wonder if it will be ok with you tube levels of traffic!

I looking forward to them streaming live soccer games in the UK. It will be interesting to see how they cope with that level of viewers.

You can definitely see your enthusiasm in the work you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers like you who aren?¯t afraid to say how they believe. Always go after your heart.

Hey this is a great post. Could you keep me updated with any other info similar to this? If travelling to the UK why not stay at Stratford hotel and watch a Shakespear play
