IE8 Install

The new IE 8 is out and it's gaining traction. Already it's more popular than both chrome and opera and ater the windows update run I imagine it'll be way above 5% by the end of the month.

I've have mixed feeling about the IE8 update, I can't understand why it requires a reboot, The firefox upgrade from 2 to 3 was so much smoother. On my work machine, a windows 2003 server, IE8 won't install after upgrading it simply closes as soon as I open it. Tried to uninstall and reinstall twice and still no joy. At mome on my windows vista box the experiance has been far less painfull, I accepted the windows update and the next day I got prompted to choose my search settings; simple.

I’m sure you are already aware and are downloading IE8 from the official Microsoft website: www.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_a

You may want to check out the system requirements also:
www.microsoft.com/.../call-us.aspx (click on system requirements tab).
Windows 2003 must be 32 or 64-bit with SP 2 or higher.

Hi Feran

I'm running server 2003 Build (3790.srv03_sp2_gdr.090319-1204): Service Pack 2).

I sadly had to revert back to IE7 since IE8 just wouldn't start up (it would open then quickly crash)and I needed IE to use the MCP website as it dosen't support firefox or CHrome.

I tried reseting all the browser settings and disabling all add-ins.

I had a similar problem on my home laptop when upgrading from IE6 to IE7 and that was caused by mcafee virus protector screwing things up.... I wonder if this is a similar problem. We use Symantec here.

P.S. Yes I downloaded directly from Microsoft.
